The First Family is celebrating their third Christmas in the White House. This year’s theme is a tribute to the traditions, customs, and history that make America great. Handpicked by the First Lady herself, the 2019 White House decorations celebrate the courageous individuals who have shaped our country and kept the American spirit alive: Upon entering the East Wing, visitors first see the cherished Gold Star Family Tree, proudly decorated by the Gold Star families of our great American military. In the East Room, four star-spangled trees stand tall, glimmering with stars and cascading ribbons. Features of the American flag are proudly incorporated. The State Dining room celebrates “America, the beautiful,” honoring landmarks from across our country—including the Golden Gate Bridge, Space Needle, Mount Rushmore, the Alamo, Gateway Arch, Liberty Bell, and Statue of Liberty. “President Trump surprised American troops in Afghanistan on Thanksgiving after leaving his Florida residence overnight,” Mike Brest reports for the Washington Examiner. “He visited Bagram Air Base on Thursday, delivering Thanksgiving greetings to U.S. troops deployed there in America’s longest-running war. This is Trump’s second visit to a combat zone. He previously visited troops in Iraq the day after Christmas in 2018.”

President Donald J. Trump left Washington to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with his family last Tuesday. Little did most Americans know that the Commander-in-Chief had another plan in mind—one that required a high level of secrecy to pull off safely.
