End Child Hunger Now

Right now, school districts across the country are making the tough decision to start the year virtually, as COVID-19 continues to threaten our safety.

But kids aren’t just missing out on going to their classrooms. For many kids, school is the only place to get breakfast and lunch – and without those meals, they’ll be left without the nutrition needed to focus on school and be healthy.

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has the power to change this. Unless they act in the next few days, USDA’s ability to extend the flexibility on waivers needed to feed kids will expire.

Tell the USDA that they must extend all waivers for the entire school year to ensure children have access to meals during the pandemic. Time is running out: Act now >>

TAKE ACTION

Already, too many families across the country struggle to put food on the table. And now because of COVID-19, Feeding America estimates that 6.8 million more children will face hunger – that’s the equivalent of the entire state of Tennessee now confronting hunger because of this pandemic.

Communities need the flexibility to efficiently and easily provide meals to children who would normally get them at school – whether it’s through delivery, distribution at local community centers, or by extending the Pandemic EBT program to provide more resources on family EBT cards.

The USDA already extended some of the waivers that help kids get access to healthy meals, but there are other waivers still in question. Without these flexibilities, it’ll be incredibly difficult to get healthy meals outside of in-person school. We need to keep families fed even when school doors are closed.

We can’t let another child go hungry during this pandemic. This crisis isn’t over, and we can’t let these critical flexibilities that help us feed kids run out.

Tell the USDA to extend these waivers and make sure kids and families struggling against hunger get the urgent support they need to stay well-nourished and safe.
